Campaigns are a collection of scenarios which are completed in a linear fashion. The game features four single-player campaigns in which the player is required to complete specific objectives. Advancement between ages is researched at the Town Center and each advancement brings the player new technologies, weapons, and units. These are the Stone Age (Mesolithic/Paleolithic), Tool Age (Neolithic/Chalcolithic), Bronze Age and Iron Age. A major component of the game is the advancement through four ages. Each civilization has technologies unique to them, so that no civilization possesses all the technologies possible within the game. Twelve civilizations are available, each with individual sets of attributes, including a varying number of available technologies and units. Resources must also be preserved, as no new resources become available as the game progresses, meaning if you cut a tree down, the tree will not grow back. To ensure victory, the player must gather resources in order to pay for new units, buildings and more advanced technologies. It doesn't stop there though, if Halloween has you in the mood for some monsters, check out the latest from the Dark Pictures Anthology with House of Ashes, or if you want something a bit more upbeat, blast off into space with the long-awaited Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy.Age of Empires Official Trailer (1997, Ensemble Microsoft)Īge of Empires requires the player to develop a civilization from a handful of hunter-gatherers to an expansive Iron Age empire.
Of course, sports fanatics can also get their kicks in the annual release of FIFA, and if you're looking for a wackier take on events that make you go outside, then Riders Republic may just fit the bill. Or if the spooky Halloween season has you in the mood for some eeries atmospheres, then Nintendo's latest entry in the Metroid season should deliver exactly what you need with Metroid Dread. If you're into huge open world sandboxes filled with crazy over-the-top action featuring a dog named after our favorite breakfast meat, then look no further than Ubisoft's Far Cry 6.
